I worked on a team of four students to build a functioning prototype of a water pump. It is powered by a DC motor, but it was designed to be used in communities lacking water infrastrucure where you could manually crank the driveshaft to pump well water. This design pumps 8.12 gallons per minute, which placed in 2nd out of 22 teams.
All custom parts are 3D printed with proper dimensional compensation
Gearbox plates and the main baseplate are laser cut with kerf adjustments
I wrote a MATLAB script to calculate the most efficient gear ratio for the pump
